May 23 - to Watson Lake, Yukon Territory

We closed both pocket doors last night to keep the heat in the bedroom.  It was toasty, but when I came out this morning, the temp had dropped to below 50°.  I am just enjoying the view and the quiet.  Makes me feel like I’m on vacation. 

I went for a little walk this morning.  Our almost twin mh (from Ft Nelson) is here.  They had trouble with their jacks in the cold too.   This campground had the bear resistant trash cans we have seen all over in the northwest.     

 It had a unique water spigot though.  The other parks have had regular hose bibs.

Ok, back to some on the road.  These are part of the rapids in the Liard River.

 Not as much snow today, but still mostly two lane road.  Intermittent spots with a passing lane.

We saw a small herd of horses along side the road (unfenced).  Hard to snap pictures and drive.  No place to pull over there and they discourage people stopping in the middle of the road for pictures.

We finally made it out of BC and into the Yukon (tax only 5% here instead of the 12% in BC).

This park was closed, but we walked all over.  The ice is breaking up along shore.

The park features a water slide, a unique attraction this far north.  Summer activity only, I'm sure.

Folks at the Visitor Center (which overseas the sign post area) were very chatty.  Enjoying the spring weather, especially since it was snowing in town yesterday.

This one is for Gerry.  Not sure the City of Garland would expect to see one of their signs here.

We are parked just to the north (back) of this little Church. 

 When we walked by we noticed they had a Mass tonight at 7:30pm.  We had already decided to go see the show at the Northern Lights Centre at 6:30pm.  It was right across the street from the Church, so we decided to make both.

Things are simple in this one room building.  The priest has a closet in the back of the room to serve as a sanctuary.

 We were greeted warmly when we entered the Church by the priest.  He has only been here a few weeks.  He is retired, but called to duty to back fill the normal priest who is having medical problems.

There were 7 people attending.  But extra prayers for a safe journey can't hurt, and he offered them to us as part of the Mass.  It has only been 10 days since we were on the bridge that collapsed in Washington state (part of the I-5).

 We are right downtown Watson Lake.  The RV spots are close together (we don't have anyone in the spaces on either side, which is nice), but it is very convenient.  We were able to walk to all the places we intended to go today.  The weather is beautiful here today {we were told they had snow yesterday}.  Talk to you tomorrow!
